Intersect360 Research surveyed the HPC user community to complete its seventh Site Budget Allocation Map, a look at how HPC sites divide and spend their budgets. The report concludes that hardware represents the largest overall budget item, accounting for 45% of the total HPC budget in 2014. Staffing continues to be the second-largest overall expense, accounting for 22% of sites.Software as a share of the overall HPC budget accounts for 13% of that budget. Cloud/Utility/Outsourcingcomputing is still a very small percentage of overall HPC expenditures, with about 3% share. Budgets are expected to increase by 1% or more for 59% of all respondents, and 43% expect budgets to increase by more than 5%. Read further...

Prometheus is a new supercomputer built by Hewlett-Packard with more than 1700 servers of HP Apollo 8000 platform, and connected by superfast Infiniband network of 56 Gbit /s throughput. Intersect360 published a report "HPC User Site Census: Storage". The report provides an examination of the storage characteristics and capacities found in a sample of High Performance Computing (HPC) user sites. otal storage capacity at over 400 sites exceeded three exabytes, triple the total storage capacity reported in 2012. SSDs are increasingly being used for local node storage, with 20% of the systems. Parallel file systems account for 44% of the 342 named storage management packages. Read further...
