The European Commission has published a "European Charter for Access to Research Infrastructures". This includes e-Infrastructures such as PRACE (supercomputers), GEANT (Networking), EGI (Cloud federation), IDGF (Crowd computing) and many others. Hardware

IDC is working on a report "High Performance Computing in the EU: Progress on the Implementation of the European HPC Strategy" for the European Commission. It should be published within a few weeks time. Yesterday a draft version was presented in an open workshop to experts from all around Europe. The goal was to provide feedback on IDC so they are able to improve the final version. The discussions at the workshop showed there - still - is a wide variety of rules and regulations in the different European countries. For instance VAT for large research infrastructures like supercomputers is handled differently, leading to more or less HPC capacity available for SMEs for instance. Read further...

Applications

The US Army Research Laboratory has released MPI software examples for the Adapteva Epiphany architecture. Adapteva is a multi-core low energy HPC processor. The Research Laboratory developed all applications to be distributed across the 16 Epiphany cores. The codes were developed by the US Army Research Laboratory, Computational Sciences Division, Computing Architectures Branch. The examples were tested on the 2015 Parallella image. Read further...
