Analytics company Xcelerit did run a a benchmark typical for the HPC workload of financial application. The comparison is between a Haswell Xeon E5-2698 v3 and a POWER8 ISeries 8286-42A. On single precision the Haswll is a clear winner: 3,5 times faster than POWER8. On double precision the difference is reduced to 1,5 times. Read further...
The New York Times and several other news sources report that HP will not include Memristor memory technology in its new advanced system called The Machine. According to the New York Times, Martin Fink, HP’s chief technology officer, repositioned The Machine as a “memory-driven computer architecture,” which focuses on the large amounts of data stored, rather than the processing power.
